Sync your players with Mailchimp
Connect an audience, pick a direction, and watch the first sync land.
Turn subscribers into playtesters
A newsletter list you already have becomes a roster you can recruit from.
Email one playtest's players
Mail the people who joined one playtest, with no CSV in the middle.
Segment a campaign with player data
Build audiences in Mailchimp that only Userplay’s data makes possible.
How the two sides map
Segments stay in Mailchimp. Userplay writes the tags and the fields; you build the segment there, and it keeps itself current as your players change.
Who can connect it
You need the Admin role or above. Members see the Mailchimp tab and everything on it, and the controls are read-only for them.Mailchimp sync needs the Essential plan or above. Discord and Steam stay available on every plan.
Connect it
Setup is a full page rather than a modal, and it asks one question per screen. Every screen has an answer already chosen, so you can move through it quickly and change your mind later.1
Authorize Userplay in Mailchimp
Click Continue to Mailchimp. You sign in on Mailchimp’s own page, approve the connection, and land back here.
2
Pick an audience
Choose the audience to sync with. If your account holds only one, it is already selected.
3
Choose a direction
Two-way, Push to Mailchimp, or Pull from Mailchimp. Two-way is preselected.
4
Choose the fields that travel
Three groups of switches, all on. Continuing confirms your players agreed to hear from you.
A pull-only setup skips this step. Nothing leaves Userplay, so there are no fields to choose and no confirmation to make.
5
Finish
Go to integrations drops you on the Mailchimp tab, where the first sync is already running.
What happens after setup
Three things run once, in the background, before your contacts start moving.Mailchimp validates a webhook by connecting to it, so registration can fail on a network problem. Setup still finishes and syncing still works. The Mailchimp tab reads Real-time: Off with a Retry beside it, and until it lands, inbound changes arrive on the regular sync instead of instantly.
Keeping it running
The connection card on the Mailchimp tab is the whole state of the integration in one line, and it opens the modal that acts on all of it.
A warning triangle appears beside the Connection heading whenever something needs you. One line per problem, since more than one can be true at once.
Dropping below Essential pauses syncing rather than disconnecting you. Your audience keeps its fields and tags, and nothing in Userplay is removed. Upgrading again does not restart it on its own, so turn Syncing back on when you want it running.
How often it syncs
Syncing runs on a cadence set by your plan rather than on every change, because the connection carries background work for as long as it stays open. Essential syncs every 15 days, Starter every 7, and Studio every 3.5.Sync cadence and allowances by plan
What each plan’s cadence is, and how many on-demand syncs come with it.
Disconnecting
Disconnect sits in the connection modal, on the left of the footer.
Connecting the same audience again picks up where you left off. Contacts keep their recorded status, so anyone who unsubscribed while you were disconnected is still treated as unsubscribed.
