Turn Announcement on and your playtest writes itself an embed for your Discord server. Publishing the playtest posts it, with a Join Playtest button carrying the share link. You write the message; the timing and the link come from the playtest.

Playbooks

Announce a playtest in Discord

Playbook: turn it on, write the message, and publish.

Playtest with Discord members

Playbook: recruit a playtest entirely from your server.

What you need first

Two things have to be true before the toggle does anything. A closed playtest still has a share link, and that link still opens. What it does not have is a door a stranger can walk through: everyone outside the roster is turned away. Announcing it would send your whole server to a page that refuses almost all of them, so the option is dropped rather than shown inert.

Discord integration

Connecting a server and approving the bot. An Admin does this once.

Turn it on

1

Enable the toggle

Open the Config tab.
  • In Playtest Settings, set Announcement to Enabled.
  • Click Save.
An Announcement tab appears in the tab bar.
2

Write the message

Open the Announcement tab.Set the content, the appearance, and the channel it posts to. The preview above shows the embed as Discord will draw it.
3

Publish the playtest

Click Publish in the editor header and confirm. The announcement posts to your channel as the playtest goes live.
On a draft, turning the toggle on posts nothing. It creates the announcement so you can write it, and the post waits for publish. On a playtest that is already published there is no later moment to wait for, so the post goes out the moment you turn the toggle on. Write the message first if you would rather not post the starter text.

What the message carries

The Announcement tab is the same composer a standalone announcement uses, with two differences: there is no Links card, and there is no schedule. Leave the cover empty and the post falls back to your studio’s branding background, so it is never blank. The button is not yours to set. It always reads Join Playtest and always carries this playtest’s own share link, which is why the Links card is missing.

What it costs

Publishing the playtest posts the announcement, and that spends one announcement message from your plan. If your allowance is empty, publishing the playtest is blocked rather than publishing without the post. You can upgrade, or set Announcement back to Disabled in Config and publish without one. The Announcement tab shows a warning before you get that far.

Announcement allowances by plan

How many messages your plan includes, and how unsent ones come back.

Editing it while the playtest is live

You can keep editing the message after the playtest publishes. Save a card and the post in Discord is rewritten in place, keeping its position in the channel along with its reactions and replies. You never have to unpublish the playtest to fix a typo, and an edit spends nothing. Resetting the public link mints a new address and kills the old one immediately, which would normally strand an announcement already sitting in your channel. It does not. The Join Playtest button on the live post is rewritten to the new address. This is an edit rather than a new post, which is why it is free.
If the Userplay bot has lost access to the channel, the rewrite cannot go through and the post keeps the old link. Restore the bot’s permissions, then save the announcement again.

Turning it off

Setting Announcement back to Disabled takes the post out of Discord and returns the message if it had not gone out yet. Everything you wrote is kept, so switching it back on restores the message instead of resetting it. Unpublishing the playtest does the same thing to the post, and archiving it takes down anything it still had posted.
Unpublishing and republishing spends a second message. A post that already reached your community is spent, so republishing sends a genuinely new one.

Duplicating the playtest

Duplicating carries the announcement across: the message, the cover, the accent color, the channel, and the role tags all come with it, the same way the screening questions do. Two things are deliberately left behind. The button points at the copy’s own share link rather than the original’s, and the copy arrives unpublished, so nothing posts and nothing is spent until you publish it yourself.
If Discord has been disconnected since you set the original up, the copy is still made. It just arrives with Announcement off, ready for you to turn on.
